Just Some Facts for You to Ponder

This was taken from the Johns Hopkins website.   http://pathology.jhu.edu/pc/
I just feel like everyone needs to know some of the facts about pancreatic cancer.  It is a scary disease and my mom is proof that anyone can get it.  As far as we know, the only risk factor she had was she was over 50.
We need more research.  We need early detection.  The only way any of that is going to happen is to donate.   http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/evamckinney/KeeptheMemoryAlive

Rough Day

It has almost been one week since I passionately started raising money for pancreatic cancer research.  As of today $490 has been donated.  I know it will take a long time to reach the million dollar goal, but no matter how long it takes I will commit to raising awareness and money for pancreatic cancer research for the rest of my life.  I have to admit, I am not a patient person.  I want to reach that goal in a year.

One Important Question for You

Today I learned of two more people with pancreatic cancer.  One passed away after only a couple of months, the other is surviving after a year. He was able to have surgery.  Some are lucky, some are not.  It is so hard for me to believe that in this high tech age there is a type of cancer that has a less than a 5% survival rate of a year.  Why are people spending their money on overpriced cars, televisions, even memorabilia and not on things that can have an impact on the quality of life for humanity?  All pancreatic cancer research needs is for these people to stop spending selfishly and start spending selflessly.  I know I am not the only person who feels this way. I lost my mom to pancreatic cancer but I feel blessed in so many ways.  So, in honor of her battle and the battle being fought by many, I will part with as much money as I can.  I just hope there are a million others that will too.

Day Three

As a result of Million Dollars for Mom, a total of $468 has been donated to pancreatic cancer research. Some may think that is a slow start, I believe it is a great beginning. All we need is to reach a million people and ask them to donate $1.00. I am not sure there is a person reading this who doesn't have a dollar in change.

Thank you to everyone for your donations yesterday.  In one day we have raised $365.00.  If we can do that in one day think of what we can accomplish in a week, month or year.  I have ideas that I am going to pursue I hope you will share yours while you are asking anyone and everyone to donate at least a dollar to fight pancreatic cancer.

This is the Beginning of My Story

My name is Carole and my life was dramatically changed on September 20, 2011.   On that day, my mom called me on her way home from a doctor’s appointment to tell me that she had pancreatic cancer.  We learned much later that it was Stage IV.  My immediate response was “how do we fix it?”  Her reply was “we don’t.”
